Mid-Autumn Festival is more than just mooncakes and tea, it is also about families coming together and reuniting. This holds especially true for families with cancer-stricken children. Which is why, tHeSpring Shopping Mall is collaborating with Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) this Mid-Autumn Festival to promote awareness of childhood cancer among the shoppers as September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
With this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival campaign, “TOGETHER, We Care”, shoppers can learn more than just what SCCS does for the patients but also how they can make a difference by volunteering their time and skills, organizing recreational activities or by joining the SCCS monthly donation program. The regular donations enable SCCS to provide support to the devastated families in terms of lodging, transportation services, food, monthly financial subsidies, donating medical consumables and lab test, subsidising or paying for expensive medical procedures that families otherwise cannot afford.
To highlight a serious topic like childhood cancer to the shoppers, the mall has adopted a light-hearted approach to the topic whereby shoppers are encouraged to download the mobile app, Blippar to scan the images located on specific Mid-Autumn Festival décor which allows them to watch videos that share success stories of childhood cancer survivors.
As the official colour of childhood cancer is gold, gold elements are incorporated into the lush bamboo garden of the Mooncake Bazaar along with a plethora of colourful, vibrantly lit lanterns. Throughout the campaign duration from 22nd September until 4th October, shoppers can show their support for the children by writing colourful notes of encouragement to place them on the gold photo wall which they can take selfies and wefies with. Shoppers are encouraged to further create awareness of childhood cancer among their family and friends by uploading their photos on Instagram with the hashtags, #thespringkch and #helpkidsfightcancer.
Taking a step further to help and support SCCS, each operator at the Mooncake Bazaar has pledged to raise fund for the charity cause by donating the proceeds of RM1 from every mooncake sold to SCCS. SCCS has also organized a Gold Ribbon Week event whereby shoppers can purchase a Gold Ribbon Pin at RM10 each from their booth and all proceeds will go directly to providing support and services for childhood cancer patients and their families.
Sarawak Energy Berhad has also come aboard tHe Spring’s “TOGETHER, We Care” campaign by sponsoring a helium balloon with the Gold Ribbon at the Premier Car Park of the mall as an evocative way to capture the attention of the public to an important cause.
tHe Spring has a whole lot more events and activities to keep the shoppers entertained during the festivities, such as the Snowskin Mooncake Making Workshop, Mooncake Toss Challenge, Dragon’s Beard Candy Giveaway and lastly, tHe Spring’s Hidden Gem Lantern Redemption. The Official Partners of tHe Spring’s “TOGETHER, We Care” campaign are Razak City Residences, Kuvings and Old Street Enterprise.
